- Introduction to dogs & People
Our 1st Training session we explained how puppies think, what their needs are at this early stage and how to establish boundaries to ensure Lucy knew her role in the family.
Lucy lasted about 90 mins and fell asleep as she was very active and doing fantastic. We talked about nutrition, how to speak Lucy's language and how to move around the house they way a dog would guiding a puppy in the home.
We got her started on toileting outside and ensuring she kept her home clean and tidy.
In a follow-up training session, Lucy, a spirited pup from Ottawa, demonstrated significant progress as she grew more comfortable with our training methods. With her growing confidence and maturity, we adapted our approach to enforce boundaries effectively, ensuring her continued development.
Recognizing the importance of outdoor training for Lucy, we initiated recall exercises, focusing on her ability to play freely in the yard while maintaining focus. Given that the yard is adjacent to one of Ottawa’s bustling parks, it was crucial to teach Lucy not to be distracted by park activities. Our approach allowed her to enjoy the outdoors without becoming obsessed with the surrounding environment.
By reinforcing boundaries and adapting our methods to suit Lucy’s evolving needs, we successfully nurtured a balanced and confident dog, ready to explore the world while remaining attentive to her owner's commands.
Lucy is in a family who has dogs. YEAH! So we came back to visit with family and their family dog. We did introductions. Dogs know how to introduce each other, but even here humans have a role to play to let the dogs know to manage their energy levels and keep the older dog in gentle play mode.
Follow up visits are absolutely necessary to finetune and adapt your dog to your situation.
Needing to socialize. Lucy's parents put a sign on the door say " RING THE BELL! Dog in training". This ensured Lucy got alot of exposure to new people and what her role was to play in the meeting. Lucy's Role was wait and look cute. She mastered it!
