Coming from Rescue Mimi started as Mia and found fantastic rescuers, it turned out Mia needed special attention and we decided this was exactly what we wanted. We had the skills and time to give Mia.
Upon arriving at home, Nancy screamed "Hey Mimi!" it wasn't until 3 months later that after reviewing her initial rescue papers, her original name when taken off the streets was Mimi. Another sign she was mean to come join our pack.
Upon bring Mimi home, we setup a crate (Chalet) and introduced her to Marrue, my 14 year old Chow Chow. The introductions did not go well as Mimi is not used to living with dogs.
We did a lot of walking and having the two spend time together while walking together.
We changed her food to Raw nutrition, and created a home of abundance.
We taught her to leave the front door area and go and lay in her chalet, with the door open. She is a scary doorwoman.
Within three weeks she went from lunging to helping Marrue get balls that were a struggle for her to go and get. Our hearts were smitten. They were not best friends, but she could respect Marrue;s position in the house.
We continued our work inside the house and she was the fastest learner,.
To get consistent access to other dogs and to help her learn how to be relaxed in public, we spent a lot of time in Gatineau's parks walking her around high volume areas. Taking her to the spots that gave us anxiety. Knowing the only way she could gain confidence in us and we could do the same for her meant, practicing where the problems occur.
